  • OooOH Ariel, Can I Be Part of Your World? :)

so of all the disney movies, i must say that my all time favorite is still the little mermaid.  i remember waking up early every saturday morning to watch the mermaid when i was younger.  til this day, i still know every line, word by word.  she was my favoritest!  in elementary school, whenever we had art projects and what not, i would always draw ariel/little mermaid related stuff.  it was insane...obsessive even.   i wanted to grab my hands on anything that had ariel on it.  i even recall getting grounded at one point because all i ever wanted was the little mermaid stuff and i think that sorta drove my mom crazy.

but anyway, i guess my obsession is still instilled with me today.  afterall, i spend $40 on a friggin little mermaid panoramic puzzle in taiwan (tracy still thinks i'm crazy for dropping that much money on a puzzle) when i was on EAP and lugged a cool ass purple frame back from taiwan to put the puzzle in when i went back in march.  theeeeeeen, decopac, a cake decorating source for professional cake decorators, decided to have a little mermaid cake decorating contest.  naturally, i entered in it and basically all you had to do was design a cake with the given little mermaid figurine any way you like.  i don't have to turn in my creative cake design until august 31, but i decided to do it this past week and get it over with.  the results?  i am SO blown away by my creation and am totally stoked about it.  i forget what the grand prize is, (i think maybe a trip to disney world for 2?) but i hope i win something.  it would be great if my design is featured in future decopac advertisements (aka, be the background decoration for this little mermaid figure).  anyway, gonna keep my fingers crossed...i don't find out til end of october i think.  it think it's so rad that i sorta don't even want to sell it...though really, what would i do with a friggin full sheet cake?  no one important is having a birthday anytime soon.  but then again, it is cookies n' cream, and i love cookies n' cream :)

here's 2 pictures.  tell me what you think? some suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  i based my design off of something i would want to see on my own cake.

oh. and you had to use everything they give you...which is the mermaid figurine and that star bracelet in the top lefthand corner.

maybe i need some colored sprinkles on the white borders?  it might make it too "messy" or "cluttered" i feel.  and the colored sprinkles might mesh too much with the background colors.  what about pink glittery sprinkles?  might be too pink...
