  • I'M DYING.  I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH MORE OF THIS I CAN TAKE.  i study more here than i do at berkeley....i simply can't remember any more words...a;kdj;akfj;sdk  HELP!  i'm anxiously anticipating the day they go, "hey!  just kidding, we just wanted to see how much you guys can handle before you crack!  this isn't the real course load, you really have an easier course load!".  errmm..don't think its going to happen...ever...akdjf;ladsjf;dlskf

  • so its a little annoying because i started school this wednesday (yeah, i know all you berkeley people are like finally!!!) and lemme tell you that when they said it would be intense...oh wow...were they right.  imagine taking like 3 chinese 10bx courses at once but worse because there is a lot more reading involved, speaking (well, obviously), and words to memorize.  i have a stupid ting-xie (hear/write) quiz in once class everyday and every other day in both my other classes.  so on days when i'm really lucky, i get 3 quizzes!! yay!! blah.

yes, summer, though it was fun and exciting this year, is officially over.  its amazing how many chinese characters you can memorize in a day before you start going insane.

went to go check out the badminton club today for the first time cause i finally figured out what time they met at and where.  i got there and there were a whole bunch of people who were learning to play.  to me, it seemed more like a social event as opposed to a real group that actually plays and plays well.  so i sat there, scoped out a few people, and got the courage to go up to this guy (who was decked out in yonnex (badminton brand) gear and asked him to play with me.  we waited for this court, and at first, these 2 guys argued with us saying that it was they were next when in actuality, I WAS, cause i've been waiting so damn long.  we rocked the people we played and then after that, those 2 guys were hesistant to play us cause we, not to sound conceited or anything, were good.  we played them and also kicked their ass.  ugh. i hate it when people underestimate my capabilities and belittle me just because i'm a girl.  boys are retarded.  PERIOD.

have the badminton tournament tomorrow.  apparently its for freshmens only but i didn't know. haha it should be ok though, cause technically, it IS my first year at college HERE. hahahaa  i don't think i'll do well.  i suck at singles.

plans for the rest of the weekend:

    friday:  not sure yet....

saturday:  tutor english at 11, tournament at 3, jay chou concert at 7

sunday:  hopefully complete tournament at 1, tutor (get this, calculus and physics to a 16 yr old-ahaha #1: i don't remember jack shit from that crap. i just miraculous seem to forget right after the final #2: yeah, a 16 yr old hs girl is taking calculus and physics.  wtf...) at 5, memorize and study a gazillion words and text....*sigh*

it has been brought to my attention that i sound like a fob now because of my previous entry.  in my defense, i'd like to say that 1) typos occur, as in the instance with the sentence that has "bite" instead of "bit" in it.  its quite easy to just tack on e's here and there yanno... and 2) i was tired and i'm not exactly the most eloquent writer when it comes to xangas

but either way...i think i've turned fob...zhou mou kuai le everyone!

  • so rode a bike for the first time in so damn long the other day because i was too damn lazy to walk to the front side of the campus like how i've been doing EVERY DAY almost.  lemme tell you, its crap.  it takes about 20 minutes fast walking too just to get from where our dorms are (at the back gate) to the front gate of the campus.  way annoying becuase there are so many more cooler stuff there.  blah. haha but yeah, going on with the story.  and so i had to lock the bike up and where you would do so was near a whole bunch of bushes.  i had to like get really close to the bushes to lock up the tires and while doing so, i got like attacked by a whole bunch of mosquitoes and got bite everywhere.  SO ANNOYING becuase these are like the really big and poisonous bites and they itch like mad!  ugh.  i hope i don't get any scars from them.  blah. so here i am updating my xanga and scratching away...

ooh but during that...so there were 4 of us with 3 bikes.  and so we decided taht me and my roomate angels would ride together on tina's bike and the other 2 would ride the other 2 bikes.  buuuut....halfway through the middle of campus, the rear wheel of the bike gives out and pops, bends, breaks, DIES basically. hahah.  the sound of the wheel popping was so loud that everyone around just stopped and stared at us and the now broken bike. hahaha.  it was pretty damn funny. haha and dude, its not because we are like fat or anything, but more becuase that bike was so crappy and like, rusting (so afraid to ride bikes here because who knows if we will contract friggin tetanus or some other disease from metal~ crediting friggin dave for that comment...*sigh* what a baby...) that it was bound to break soon anyway. haha yeah, not a good idea to suppose 2 people on that bike apparently...

what else has happened lately?  well, found a vietnamese place and ate some pho and vietnamese food.  it was ok.  they sold vietnamese sandwiches for $3!!! thats insane.  most food here is less than $1 and even so, those sandwiches are more than what i pay for back at home.  sheesh.

OOOh.  went to ktv for like the very first time on thursday.  twas fun.  am surprised at my ability to read chinese songs now on the screen.  i must say, am starting to like jay chow songs now...but only his slow songs cause his fast songs are pretty much ass...sorry if i've offended any jay chow lovers out there. hahaah i'm doing my homework and learning some of his songs before i go to his concert in taipei on oct. 2.  yes everyone, i was going to attend a concert of an artist whose work i knew nothing of...but never fear...for i am being cultured right as we speak. hahhaa

um...OOH...hahah went to a friggin like self-righteous, investment, cult type meeting today and it was pretty wack.  i can't believe these people it was kinda like one of those classrooms with like a person speaking into the mic and just talking about stories and random crap.  why you ask that i went then?  well, i didn't know what i was getting myself into when dave dragged me to go with him, as well as marilyn, to it and as it turned out, dave didn't really know what it was about before we went too. hahaa. but yeah, the guy just went rambling on and on about random ass crap and like, everyone was referring to him as teacher in a very respective manner( lao shi) and all chanting random shit in the back.  hella people were like writing down notes and copying what he wrote on the blackboard and  we were all just sorta like what is going on here!  and unfortunately for me, i was next to this lady who kept burping for lke 20 minutes straight.  like..straight up burping.  ugh.  it was damn annoying.  and then people were also constantly like spraying mouth spray or whatever all throughout the horrendous 1hr and 15 minutes we were there.  hahaha  i kept hearing that spitz spitz spitz sound and it was driving me nuts.  i couldn't wait to get out of there.  thank god at 9, the time it was suppose to be over, dave made up an excuse and just got up and led the way out, even though the "lao shi" was still talking. haha.  it was quite the absurd experience.  hahaa.  dave treated both me and marilyn later to some hot pot because of the hell he put us through.  it was delish!  (there, yah happy??? i didn't say SO GOOD...ass...) but yeah, dave will update soon and i'll just copy and paste what he writes because he simply is like the best writer in the world.  a big ha-ha-ha.

anyway...to sum it up, because i'm sure half of you just skipped what i wrote and went straight for the pictures:  massive mosquitoe bites, rusty old bike's rear tire broke, ate vietnamese food, went karoaking, attended a crazy cult meeting, ate some damn good hot pot.  enough words now.  here are some picture from our night out at MOS (ministry of sound):

deciding what to wear...so it seems. hahaha helen stuck some of these $2 stuft pig animals into her shirt...and phoebe touches in disbelief haha

the MOS sign on the floor to the entrance of the 3 story club:

    us outside after clubbing

gross..can you see all the smoke??? yuck.  the white guy's duncan.  he lives on our floor and he's from australia.

the entrance to MOS.  pretty spankin.  i really like this club.

at lai lai dou jiang right after clubbing. hehehe such satisfying food at the wee hours of the night. well, not really, it was only 2 am.  yeah, we get clubbed out pretty early here.  i blame it on old age

sorry about the different sizes of pictures.  yes, this is the work of a berkeley engineer..and as a berkeley engineer, i am also too lazy to fix what isn't entirely aesthetic.  deal with it.

  • so i think today has been by far the absolute most laziest day of my entire trip here so far. hahaha i woke at 1:30, went to go eat breakfast/lunch, came back to the dorms, read some more harry potter, fell asleep, went back out to eat dinner and do a little shopping and then come back. haha.  so basically all i did today was eat and sleep.  err.....very productive, yes.

now...haha today has also been a milestone of a different sort as well.  i think that today was the day that i ate the most amount of food in one day haha.  lets see

    1.  9 pieces of chicken nuggest at mcD's. yes, i love chicken nuggets and need to eat them even though i am in taiwan where its known for its great food..haahha

    2.  some fries at mcD's

    3.  a hot dog from 7-11

    4.  a bag of guai guai (err..kinda like chips but not really)

    5.  a corn dog

    6.  a big piece of fried chicken-think of the chicken at tapioca express or like old tea house but not cut up into pieces

    7.  an ice cream sandwich

    8.  bao bing- like shaved ice with tapioca

    9.  a phillycheese steak sort of thing

uhh...yeah..too much food...but so damn good! hahaha.  but yeah...thats basically all i've been doing lately.  its great...haha this is what summer is all about! hehehe.

what else have i been up to?been clubbing and shopping a lot...but i mean, there is only so much i need to buy or want.  i think later on this week we will be heading out to danshui or kenting and to a couple of hot springs. hehehe.  should be fun, and all accessible through the mrt (metro lines here).  but yeah, been to room 18 on wednesday, plush on friday, and MOS on saturday.  i love being a girl here because you are basically always cover free! hahaa.  didn't have to pay cover at room 18 or at plush, and MOS was only 350 because we got in before 11.  good stuff!!!  prepartying is always good and there are always a 7-11, quan jia, or hite life or whatever just around the corner to any club selling alcoholic drinks (mostly beer and smirnoff) for 1/20th of the bar price at the club. ahahah   good stuff.

somewhat disappointed with the badminton here.  you would think that there would be a bunch of really good people who play here...NOPE.  ahhaa.  went to go play the other day and was quite disappointed.  not many people were really good on the courts...actually, come to think of it, none at all.  blah.  earlier last week, i accidently signed myself up for an upcoming badminton tournament...at first i was just going to forfeit the $100 NT fee and default but seems like i will be participating in it after all even though it is singles...at this rate, i might fend a chance in singles, although i am normally a doubles or mixed player.  we'll see, we'll see.  maybe the real players will be better.  they have to be! ugh.

pretty much checked out a lot of taipei so far.  went to shi lin night market, went to xi men ding night market, went to taipei 101, went to warner village, went to sogo!!!  anyhow, here are some photos from taiwan:

this is the toilet i was talking about in an earlier entry.  yup, this is where i go to take a crap. hahaha.  oh, and did i mention you have to buy and bring your own toilet paper with you everytime you go??? yes, my dorm bathroom!

at warner village:  trace, mar, phoebe, alice, and me

phoebe trying to be lady liberty

here is taipei 101, the tallest building in the world.  good food in the bottom floor of the building.  good shopping but its stuff i could never afford..hahaa.  sorry can't flip the picture to be right side up...bleh.

you see what i mean, they have LV balloons floating around the place

Group of fellow EAPers heading out to Room 18 on Wednesday.  Thats the entrance to our dorms.

  • hmm...ate dinner with bkptc's parents. hahaha that was fun.

getting used to this type of lazy life...sitting around doing nothing for extended periods of time...kinda wish i had some t.v. to watch though.  stupid season 3 of 24 doesn't come out until dec. 7th.  wtf.  i thought it was out already.  bleh.  I WANT MY T.V. SHOWS!  *sigh*.  thank god olive is going to record gilmore girls for me and my sister got the o.c. and smallville covered with tivo and alias doesn't start til january. hahaa.  yes, i am a t.v. freak.

i have my placement test tomorrow.  kinda worried but kinda not.  i mean, afterall, it is just a placement test and all so no biggie really, right???  bleh.  gonna go out and get crunked tonight maybe.  whoo hoo for room 18 and ladies night baby.

went to the gym finally yesterday and was dying.  couldn't believe my eyes that it was so difficult for me to lift the 10 lb dumbells.  i was really struggling with it...which was odd because back in the states, i could lift them with ease, yanno?  haha i was really irritated because yeah, sure, i haven't gone to the gym in like 2.5 + weeks, but i mean, i shouldn't be struggling THAT much...hahaha.  as it turns out, the dumbells were about 13lbs instead of 10lbs because i forgot to include the bar itself.  haha LAME.  the dumbells in the states is 10lbs overall, including the bar, but the dumbells here don't include the bar.  so you gotta cound the 2 side weights and the bar. ahahha.  THANK GOD though cause i was worried that i was starting to lose strength and becoming one of those weaky frail little asian girls.  GROSS.

*ahem* people, i said lbs...not kg...

  • i think i'm getting used to being drenched...hahaa cause its either being drenched in sweat or drenched in rain...take your pick.

stupid typhoon.  go away so i can party it up before school starts on the 29th.  blah.

found a cool place to buy lots of cheap, useless things...but might i add that they are DAMN CUTE. haha.

need to find a job soon to fund my spendings.  $5 a day on great food is making me broke.

  • i'm raging a war with cockaroaches and lizards in my dorm room in taiwan.

at once i was afraid, i was petrified ...but now...its war...its on...bring it you scary creepy crawl insects/amphibeans, BRING IT!

  • the flight was splendid-had big comfy seats, a t.v. right in front of you, and good service.  first time flying on eva air deluxe economy and it was awesome.  sleeping most of the way there was fantastic too.  thank god for the pillow i brought with me onto the plane and wearing pajamas during the whole flight was a good idea too. muahaa.

landed in taiwan, my host buddy from the NTU was there already as was marilyn's and we boarded a bus, drove for about an hour and then got onto a taxi to go directly to the school.  checked in and all of us are in separate rooms.  we are fine with it.  can branch out and meet new people on the floor. saw the rooms...not too bad...i actually think its quite decent.  lots of storage space which is good.  now that i put everything away, it looks sooo friggin empty.  hahah.  you know what that means...time to buy lots of useless fobby stuff to put all over my room!  hahaa.  haven't met my roomate yet, i wonder when she'll get in.  i hope she's not crazy.  there can't be two crazy people living in one room ;) .

anyways, went around the campus and man is it damn big.  bleh.  i walked so much yesterday (not to mention in the heat) that i wanted to amputate my feet. haha yeah, that bad.  i might actually invest in a bicycle here...aahahha or not.  we'll see.

hmm...then cleaned my room like crazy.  wipped down EVERYTHING and put everything away.  that was good.  i'm glad i brought my blanket and pillows from home with me.  haha.  makes me feel like i'm on my bed again at home...except its a lot harder...ooOOh and its kinda weird not being able to roll around while sleeping cause i've been demoted back to a twin size bed..or rather...a twin sized sleeping space. DOH!  now maybe when i get back to the states i'll be used to sleeping in such a confined space and i'd be able to share my bed. hahha.  YEAH RIGHT!  ;)   i ain't no ho!

um...went to taipei 101 for a little bit yesterday.  that place is awesome.  my god i wish i was rich. one day, one day...hahaha but yeah, gotta go back when my feet are re-energized to shop/eat away.

oh and yeah...while referring to the bathrooms in my dorm in taiwan:

mintie2100 (11:02:32 AM): i think i'd have a hard time going back to ditches for bathrooms too
    mintie2100 (11:02:46 AM): actually
    mintie2100 (11:02:48 AM): i dunno

    mintie2100 (11:04:12 AM): omg
mintie2100 (11:04:17 AM): okay if u havea toilet
mintie2100 (11:04:23 AM): you sit on it
mintie2100 (11:04:34 AM): so that's actually more "dirty"

mintie2100 (11:04:44 AM): than just sqating over a ditch
mintie2100 (11:04:54 AM): cuz all ur ass touching is air
    mintie2100 (11:04:55 AM): nm

    mintie2100 (11:04:56 AM): ...

    aaaaaahahahhaha.  good stuff
